Plastic Wheels for Lawn EquipmentPlastic wheels and other blow molded plastics have revolutionized lawnmower safety. Blow molded plastics are affordable. They are made tough to stand up to serious abuse and endure well. If needed to be replaced, plastic wheels are inexpensive. Blow molded plastic wheels must continuously undergo brutal impacts against rocks, trees and curbs, so they must be made tough. Plastic wheels should be checked every time the mower is used and kept in good shape. Cutting the lawn is a dangerous chore. It has a whirling blade that spin up to 200 miles per hour. Even a dull blade could inflict a lot of damage. Do not allow your hands or feet to go past the plastic wheels on any side underneath the cutting deck. The spinning blade is designed to cut grass but will cut up almost anything in its path. Many things become serious projectiles when run over by a mower. Walking a straight path everywhere the plastic wheels will touch is the best way to protect it. Remove all obstacles. The plastic wheels will indicate what you can roll over. A general rule of thumb is if the plastic wheels would hit it, it should be moved. This includes rocks, toys, and anything that would obstruct the plastic wheels from rolling. Always wear good shoes when mowing. The plastic wheels are not the only things that should be durable. The majority of lawn mowers are gasoline fueled combustion engines. Plastic fuel tanks contain the explosive properties of the gas and oil tanks. Gasoline is also stored for the mowers in plastic tanks. Pour gasoline carefully into the plastic fuel tanks so avoid spilling the lethal liquid. Gasoline fumes are flammable and ignite easily. This included fumes that would leak out of the plastic tanks when the cap is loosened. Vapors can be ignited from a hot muffler. Always handle fuel with care. It is a smart person that uses these tools with care. The health of the machine and the people operating it is at stake. This is a serious matter. Keep the mower safe from the plastic wheels up. |
